Five men arrested, accused of trying to use fake money in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — A group of Lower Mainland men is accused of trying to use counterfeit US $100 bills in Kamloops on the weekend.

RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says police were alerted early Saturday morning to a man trying to pass a fake bill.

During the course of the day, seven other businesses reported men trying to use counterfeit American hundreds, including one that told police the suspect was getting into a taxi cab.

Officers intercepted the cab, and upon searching the five passengers, found a total of 16 counterfeit bills.

Shelkie says the bills were poorly printed, and would have been easy to detect as counterfeit.

All of the men arrested are between 22 and 23 years old, and three are described as ‘previously known to police.’

They have court appearances set for September 12.

RCMP are asking local businesses to double-check to ensure the men weren’t able to successfully pass any of the bills before they were nabbed.

Police would also like business owners to contact them if the suspects visited their locations on Saturday.
