Tens of thousands turn up downtown for weekend events

KAMLOOPS —  It couldn’t have been busier in the downtown over the weekend. Literally tens of thousands of people crowded into the downtown core to participate in three major events all going on at the same time.

The Rotary Ribfest at Riverside Park drew large crowds each day to enjoy food in the park and live entertainment throughout the day,as well as special activities for the kids.

In the heart of downtown, people enjoyed walking through 13 blocks of Victoria Street looking at the fancy cars on display at Hot Nite in the City, and if that weren’t enough, the Dragon Boat Festival was taking place along the South Thompson River.

Several downtown merchants told us they’d never seen it that busy downtown.

The weather was a little mixed, but overall the bad weather held off.

At one point, there were advisories for people to take the city busses to the events, as there was literally no parking in the downtown core.

Totals for the fundraising events like the Ribfest are expected in the next couple of days.
