NewLeaf takes flight in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — Canada’s newest commercial airline, NewLeaf, flew out of Kamloops for the first time today.

The plane arrived from Edmonton this morning, July 30, and after a short delay due to unscheduled maintenance, passengers boarded the aircraft bound for Victoria.

NewLeaf representatives were at the Kamloops airport to celebrate the inaugural flight.

CEO Jim Young says NewLeaf has a simple business plan, which focuses on providing the lowest airfares for people seeking a short getaway.

“We’re not trying to go after the business passenger,” Young said. “We’re really focused on the leisure passenger. Our schedule is our schedule and it’s not built around two or three times a day convenience, it’s more two or three times a week.”

NewLeaf flies direct from Kamloops to Victoria and Edmonton on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Young says NewLeaf has had a great response from passengers since they began flying in Canada earlier this week.
