Second body found in search for two teenagers in northern Alberta

HIGH PRAIRIE, Alta. — The father of a northern Alberta woman who was found dead a day after her boyfriend’s body was located says the couple never had a serious argument.

Louis Grey said his daughter, Cory Grey, and Dylan Laboucan were both accepted to study at Northern Lakes College in Slave Lake in the fall and were planning to move into an apartment there together next month.

They never drank, he said. He said his family doesn’t swear.

“They were very timid people,” said Grey. “They had no enemies.”

RCMP said the body of Cory Grey, 19, was discovered late Tuesday afternoon in a rural area outside of High Prairie.

The discovery came after the body of Dylan Laboucan, her 17-year-old boyfriend, was found Monday night when police went to check a report of a sudden death on the Whitefish Lake First Nation.

Grey was reported missing late Sunday — a day after Laboucan was reported missing from the same general area.

Their bodies were found in different locations.

Louis Grey said he and his wife first learned something was wrong late Saturday night when they got a text from Laboucan’s mother that the youth had been found unconscious.

Grey said the person who found Laboucan claimed he was bloody and rushed off to phone for help, but when he returned, Laboucan was missing.

“We drove around all night and all day the following day just trying to locate them. We got more worried and worried. But we were still hoping they were out there somewhere,” said Grey.

Mounties said it’s too early to determine if either death was the result of criminal activity, or if they are linked.

Autopsies were scheduled for Wednesday in Edmonton.

Police said they are appealing to the public for information.

Grey said his daughter, who was the youngest of his and his wife’s nine children, lived at her boyfriend’s parents. But he said she visited every day because their home was so close.

He said when they went out, it was usually with family.

“They more just liked staying home,” he said.
