Canada’s De Grasse edges Powell in 100 metres, in final tuneup for Rio Olympics
HOUSTON — Canadian sprint star Andre De Grasse ran to victory in his final race before the Rio Olympics.
The 21-year-old from Markham, Ont., beat former world record-holder Asafa Powell to win the 100 metres in the American Track League meet at Rice University on Saturday.
De Grasse crossed in 10.02 seconds, while Jamaica’s Powell finished in 10.08. Dexter Lee of Jamaica was third in 10.14.
De Grasse is the reigning world bronze medallist in the event and recently captured his second consecutive Canadian 100 title.
