VALDIVIA, Chile — Canada had to settle for silver at the 2016 FIBA Americas women’s under-18 championship on Sunday after falling to the United States 109-62.
Mikaela Brewer of Barrie, Ont., led Canada with 16 points while Toronto’s Alyssa Jerome added 12.
American forward Lauren Cox had 15 points and nine rebounds and was named tournament MVP. Tyasha Harris scored a game-high 18 points as the U.S. won the event for the eighth year in a row and improved to 53-2 all-time in FIBA Americas U18 championship play.
“We went over a lot of things (Canada) would run offensively and how we wanted to defend,” said American coach Suzie McConnell-Serio.
