McDonald Splash Park officially opens

KAMLOOPS — When City Council announced in April their plans to close the McDonald Park Pool, it was a difficult decision for area residents to accept. They wanted to know where they could take their families to cool off in the summer heat? Well, that question was answered today, as the mayor, council, and many members of the community were in attendance to open the new water attraction in the neighbourhood, and the addition has made a splash with many kids in the community.

Before the water was turned out, swimsuit clad kiddies were playing in the new splash park. The politicians on hand could feel the anticipation in the air, and thankfully kept their remarks short

With the help of some of the kids on hand, the Mayor, along with MLA Terry Lake, and President of the North Shore BIA, Steven Puhallo, cut the ribbon, and got the water flowing at the park, much to the delight of the children

CFJC Today asked mayor Peter Milobar is he brought his swimsuit and planned to join in the wet fun.

“I won’t be doing that, today,” Milobar said with a smile. “[I’ll] let the kids have their fun, and certainly as you can see behind us, a huge success so far.”

Some of those kids on hand agreed with Mayor Milobar.

“I think it’s absolutely amazing,” said Ryan Sherlock. “[The city] worked very hard to make this, and I think they should be very proud.”

“I’m probably going to come out here with my friends, play soccer. It’s going to be amazing!” Julian Cruz told CFJC Today.

Despite the initial frustration area residents expressed when it was announced the pool was being removed, they were out in full force today for the big event.

“Staff did a phenomenal job,” Milobar said. “What we’re hoping, and what we’re seeing already is there’s more use of the overall park in general, as kids come and use the splash park, and use the playground.”
