2141 Steam Engine on track for the summer season

KAMLOOPS — After a long winter’s rest, an iconic Kamloops tourist attraction is ready for another busy season. 

The Spirit of Kamloops Steam Engine, also known as the 2141, is up and running for the summer. Passenger climbed aboard the heritage train today for a special celebration and inaugural public railtour. After years of mechanical issues, the Kamloops Heritage Train Society was forced to restore the steam engine, and this will be the first full season since 2012. 

“Last year we had a half a season, we did run through the Ghost Train and the Spirit of Christmas and part of the summer, but over the years the train wasn’t quite fixed, we weren’t ready, but the gentlemen at the back shop have done a fantastic job as usual getting everything up to all the safety standards that we have to do,” says Rosanne Nelson, Manager of Railtour Operations

Built in 1912 by the Canadian Locomotive Company for Canadian Northern Railway, Steam Engine 2141 was given to the City of Kamloops in 1961. Today, passengers from Canada and all over the world, boarded the train to take in the sights.
