Chaos on the Coquihalla as sleet covers the highway

KAMLOOPS — BC Ambulance says there have been a series of crashes at the Inks Lake brake check on the Coquihalla Highway that have resulted in eight people transported to hospital.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene around the 1:00 hour Friday afternoon.

All five vehicles there were badly damaged, with one ending up on its roof.

Sleet covered the highway at the time, and BCAS says that was likely causing drivers to lose control.

Traffic was getting through a short time after the incident, as most of the vehicles ended up off the road and into the brake check space itself.

Eight patients were transported to Royal Inland Hospital for treatment.

The extent of injuries is unknown at this point.
