SALMON ARM , B.C. — A British Columbia mother and father have been given a conditional discharge after using a plastic hockey stick and a skipping rope to spank their 14-year-old daughter.

B.C. Provincial Court Judge Edmond de Walle convicted the couple from earlier this year of assault with a weapon.

The spanking was doled out after the teenager’s parents discovered she had sent nude photographs of herself to a young man over the Internet.

In his decision, de Walle condemned the spanking as punitive and degrading, not corrective.
