Snowpack diminishing quickly across B.C.

KAMLOOPS — Officials with the BC River Forecast Centre are raising the alarm about potential low river levels come the dog days of summer.

The Centre’s Dave Campbell says rivers across the province are high now, but that’s because the seasonal alpine snow melt is nearly a full month ahead of schedule.

“It’s been a high month for flow, much higher than normal. The whole season of the melt is shifted earlier. We figure we are probably three or four weeks or even more ahead of normal, so we are seeing the type of flows we normally don’t get until June,” stated Campbell.
