KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops employer that relies on the struggling oil and gas sector has announced another round of layoffs.
Horizon North, which manufactures trailers and modular units, laid off 34 employees from its Kamloops operations today.
Vice President of Human Resources Ben Bazinet says the layoffs are on a temporary basis, and the company is hoping its business will turn around soon.
“We do remain optimistic. We have a new offering of permanent modular that is progressing well, and is looking positive,” said Bazinet. “So we are hoping to get some stuff on that, as well as the LNG opportunities later this year do sit out there that we remain optimistic on as well.”
Bazinet says the remaining complement of workers in Kamloops is just over 200.
