KAMLOOPS — City Council is going all in on pickleball.
Council voted this afternoon (April 5) to build four tournament-standard pickleball courts at Riverside Park, near the tennis courts.
Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Director Byron McCorkell says pickleball is a fast-growing sport, and if Kamloops is Canada’s Tournament Capital, it should have the facilities to match.

“They would be individually fenced court spaces, they would be at a higher standard as far as playability from a club’s perspective,” said McCorkell, adding, “we would be able to light this site, and this would become the tournament venue for pickleball in Kamloops.”
The maximum city expenditure will be 225-thousand dollars.
McCorkell also announced plans to paint lines on several of the city’s tennis courts throughout the city, making them compatible for pickleball.
