Three people involved in Sun Peaks crash remain in hospital

SUN PEAKS — Three of the 10 victims involved in a serious car crash at Sun Peaks on Wednesday are still recovering at Royal Inland Hospital.

Interior Health could not confirm the condition of the three patients, but after Wednesday’s crash, there were two in critical condition and one in serious. The other seven people involved, including the driver of the School District 73 cube van, has been released from hospital after suffering non-life threatening injuries.

The accident happened just after 9 a.m. just before the village. The cube van involved belongs to the Kamloops-Thompson School District, and it was making a delivery to Sun Peaks at the time.

Superintendent Karl deBruijn says the driver is okay, and there was no one else in the van.

DeBruijn notes there had been rumours that a school bus carrying students was involved, but that is not the case.

Traffic was backed up for about two hours after the crash.
