KAMLOOPS — The Chateau Garden Apartments on Knox Street in North Kamloops look a bit the worse for wear this morning after a full size white van smacked into it last night.

The van caused extensive damage to the underground parking lot and part of the building when the collision occurred just after 7:30 PM.

Kamloops Fire and Rescue spokesman Steve Kilmartin says his crews responded to reports of an explosion and thought they were going to see a structure fire when they arrived, but instead, there was a big hole in the building.

RCMP Sergeant Karen Delorey says the van backed out of the structure and took off, hitting a car in the parking lot along the way.

Fortunately, there were no injuries, and no fire.

The building was evacuated after the initial call to police while they sorted out what had happened.

Sergeant Delorey says they’re looking for anyone with information to call them, or Crimestoppers.

The white van shouldn’t be too hard to spot. It will have extensive front end damage and scrapes along the roof.
