KAMLOOPS — RCMP conducted a clandestine operation at the intersection of Summit Drive and Columbia Street in Kamloops this morning.
It was meant to snag distracted drivers and people not wearing seat-belts.
Corporal Gerard Poitras says the operation was a combined effort of the Kamloops RCMP Integrated Road Safety Unit and Southeast District Traffic Services.
“We want to curb the habits of people to make sure that they are not using their cell phones while they are driving,” said Poitras, who added, “that’s not to say that you can’t use your cell phone when you are in a parking lot, parked, or in a drive thru. But if you’re on a roadway we want you to leave that cell phone alone.”
Poitras says distracted driving is the number one cause of crashes both inside the city of Kamloops and in the Southeast District.

The blitz was conducted at two seperate location in both North and South Kamloops.
