KAMLOOPS — The first wave of government-sponsored Syrian refugees is on its way to Kamloops.
Paul Lagace of Kamloops Cariboo Regional Immigrant Services says they are already in Canada.
“We know that there are eight to 10 families scheduled to come to Kamloops,” said Legace. “We expect that they’ll be arriving in the next week or two because they’re already in the country. So we assume that they’re going to be traveling to and from their locations in the next few weeks.”
Lagace says these refugees are part of the 25,000 refugees promised by the Trudeau government by the end of February.
He notes housing is always a challenge, but he believes Kamloops is ready to accommodate the families when they arrive.
