KAMLOOPS — There may be an end in sight to the labour troubles between Thompson Rivers University and its faculty association.
Mediation broke down late last week, with the mediator putting forward an independent recommendation for both sides to vote on.
TRUFA President Tom Friedman wouldn’t delve into the details of that recommendation, and says it’s far from what TRUFA was seeking when it went into bargaining.
But Friedman says the university bargaining under the provincial framework is not moving much, and this may be the best deal TRUFA can get.
“We really don’t have much wiggle room in terms of getting what we really want for the university, so the bargaining team is going to recommend to the membership that they ratify the deal,” said Friedman.
Friedman adds the mediator’s recommendation will be brought to TRUFA members at a meeting tonight, and voting will take place throughout the week.
The university’s Board of Governors would need to accept the deal as well in order for an agreement to be reached.
