KAMLOOPS — KGHM-Ajax officials appeared at Kamloops council today for the first time since they submitted their application to the Environmental Assessment Office.
Officials say they are available to come back if council decides.
One question from council focused on the decision to move from dry stack tailings to wet tailings, in light of the recent disaster at the Mount Polley mine.
Project Manager Clyde Gillespie says that decision was made in conjunction with a series of tailings experts, including a group of geotechnical engineers and geologists who act as an independent tailings review board.
Another question focused on why the environmental application was made public in one giant dump, rather than released sporadically when the reports were complete.
Gillespie says the mine was bound by the regulatory process.
