KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Fire Rescue confirms two of their trucks were struck while responding to motor vehicle incidents Sunday, January 17.
Captain Jeff Bell says the Rescue truck and Engine 3 truck from Valleyview were struck.
Bell says, “ damage seems minor, one was hit in the side, the other was hit in the back end. A lot of this has been directly related to road conditions and people likely driving too fast for conditions.”
Bell says if KFR’s Rescue truck is put out of service, the Jaws of Life and all of the rescue equipment on it is taken out of service too.
“We do have our reserve truck in service but it doesn’t have the same amount of equipment as our main Rescue truck. So if there is another incident and that truck is out of service we won’t be able to extricate somebody, ” says Bell.
The first incident occurred on the Yellowhead Highway when the Rescue truck was responding to an motor vehicle accident.
The Rescue truck was then struck by a motorist.
KFR called in it’s Engine 3 who responded and was also struck in the same area.
Captain Bell says road conditions are very bad right now and urges motorists to slow down.
