Blazers trade for experience and depth

KAMLOOPS — The Blazers made one deal before the Western Hockey League trading deadline on Sunday.

Sending defenceman Patrik Maier to Moose Jaw for forward Jiri Smejkal.

Both are 19 year olds, both imports.   Maier from Slovakia — Smejkal from the Czech Republic.

Both played for their countries in the World Junior Hockey Championship, where Smejkal had two goals and four points in five games.
Last season he had 12 goals and 32 points in 72 games with Moose Jaw

Before leaving for the World Junior Tournament Smejkal had appeared in 28 games with the Warriors this season, scoring four times and assisting on fourteen.
Smejkal is expected to make his Blazers debut Wednesday in Medicine Hat.
