KAMLOOPS — Those looking to travel to the U.S. will be be faced with a costly exchange rate as every U.S. dollar costs Canadians $1.41.
But while the slipping loonie is sure to negatively affect that demographic it also represents a boost in the Kamloops tourism market.

In the last year Tourism Kamloops has begun to see increases in visitation.
Acting CEO of Tourism Kamloops Monica Dickinson says, “we’ve see increase in American guests finding their way into B.C. and Kamloops. We’re finding more locals stay local, like B.C. and Albertans. The impact is two fold when you look at visitation.”
For the aviation industry the low Canadian dollar is a double edged sword, according to the Manager of the Kamloops airport Fred Legace. He says says more people are traveling within Canada and Americans are heading north of the border, however fuel pricing is done in American dollars.
“Those really expensive airplanes ad parts are all done in American dollars. On the other side it will be more expensive for air carriers to operate but that’s offset by the fact they’ll have more customers.
