KAMLOOPS — It’s as much a Christmas tradition as turkey and mistletoe, Operation Red Nose is going strong, in it’s 19th year in Kamloops.
Video Journalist Adam Donnelly joined the service recently, to see just how much goes into getting holiday revellers, and their vehicles, home safe.
December Saturday night in Kamloops, and there’s plenty of holiday cheer flowing around the city. Soon, parties will be winding down, which mean’s the night will really get going for Operation Red Nose volunteers.
For volunteers with the service, it’s a hurry up and wait situation, because once those calls start to trickle in, it can soon become a flood
To keep the crews going strong, sponsors provide a cornucopia of goodies, maybe the most important is the coffee.
The by donation program provides party goers with an alternative ride home during a season of festivities.
The service runs from now until New Year’s Eve.
Anyone interested in participating is asked to go to the RCMP office on Battle Street to fill out the volunteer application form.
All the proceeds raised from Operation Red Nose goes toward amateur athletes in Kamloops.
Last holiday season the group provided 1,265 rides and are hopeful to surpass the 1,300 mark this year.
