KAMLOOPS — Kenneth Knutson is headed to trial.
The man accused of shooting a Kamloops RCMP officer during a traffic stop in Batchelor Heights one year ago had a brief preliminary hearing today.
Corporal J.R. Michaud was seriously injured in the incident, and has yet to return to work.
Knutson’s preliminary inquiry was scheduled to last up to four days, but wrapped up shortly after it began this morning.
Lawyers will return to court December 21 to set a trial date.
The accused faces five counts, including Attempted Murder.
After Michaud was shot early on the morning of December 3, 2014, it took RCMP more than 12 hours of searching before Knutson was arrested.
Knutson is a convicted killer with a lengthy criminal history and has ties to Lower Mainland drug gangs.
