Murder Trial Begins in Kamloops Supreme Court

Crown prosecutors have laid out their case, as the Second Degree Murder trial of Damien Taylor began in BC Supreme Court today. Taylor is accused of killing his 16-year-old girlfriend C.J. Fowler in December of 2012, leaving her body in a gully off the Summit Connector in Kamloops.

In her opening submission, Crown prosecutor Alex Janse told the court that Fowler and Taylor had been at the Royal Inland Hospital emergency room hours before her death with Fowler complaining of chest pains possibly relating to her use of crystal meth. As part of medical testing Fowler was told she was pregnant.

Not long after the two argued. When she was found several hours later by a passerby walking his dog, Fowler had a 56-pound concrete block crushing her face and neck. The medical examiner determined she choked to death.

Taylor was arrested in Prince George more than a year later. Testimony before the 12-member jury continues throughout the week. Crown intends to call 21 witnesses before turning the floor over to defence lawyer Don Campbell.
