KAMLOOPS — Exactly four days ago my family and I moved from one area of Kamloops to another. Before packing up the house we selected the items we no longer use but are still in good condition and we took them to a couple of our thrift stores of choice (ran by volunteers and raising money for worthy causes.)

Waiting until after Nov. 11 to put up Christmas decorations is the least we can do for veterans

IT WAS EXACTLY on Nov. 1 that some of the neighbourhood pumpkins showed a last candle-less unglamorous grin before they were replaced with Christmas light garlands. An early bird special, I thought, but isn’t the day after Halloween too early?

There is Remembrance Day in between, which is when we ought to give proper honours to our veterans before moving on to the jolliness of the season. There is room enough for both.

Water for pigs and other crimes against society

A FEW WEEKS AGO, an Ontario woman (a known animal activist) gave water to a few pigs headed for the slaughterhouse. The pigs were in a truck and the water was given through slots and there was no big crime other than interfering with the man-made string of events involving pigs that are to be rendered for human consumption.

THE LAST TWO weeks have been tragic in many ways. If you’ve read the news and are perhaps waiting for something positive on the diesel spill near Bella Bella, you most likely know about the unacceptable low-class response that came from the government.

Yes, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans PR team build a nice little positive update stating that the tug boat that leaked diesel into the water has been pumped clean and the attention is now focused on removing the Nathan E. Stewart barge from the waters near Bella Bella. Right. And then?
