Early flood advisory issued for Nicola Lake

MERRITT, B.C. — The melting snow has caused provincial officials in the Merritt area to issue a flood advisory for Nicola Lake.

The Early Flood Advisory was issued this morning for residents both upstream and downstream of the Nicola Lake Dam.

According to the Thompson-Nicola Regional District, inflow into the lake has increased and levels have jumped half-a-metre over the past week.

The TNRD is advising residents to protect their docks, septic systems and other infrastructure.

“If people want sandbags, they can contact our office. If they are concerned about their infrastructure and the rising levels, they can contact our office,” said TNRD Emergency Services Information Officer Agnese Saat.
