Kamloops — The Kamloops Blazers newest defenceman is settling in with his new team after the first week.

17 year old Montana Onyebuchi played his first games with the Blazers this past weekend in Victoria.

The Dugald, Manitoba native was all over the scoresheet in Friday night’s game recording his first point as a Blazer, as well as seven penalty minutes including a fighting major.

After the road trip this past weekend Onyebuchi says he’s starting to feel more comfortable with his new team.

“I think I’m going to bring like a physical presence, we’re still a young team,” said Onyebuchi.  “(We) have some big guys still, so yeah I think that and shooting.  High energy, just be myself and just play hard.”

Onyebuchi plans to work hard for the remainder of this year and improve on his skillset for the years to come.

He says doesn’t have any nerves for tonight’s game against the Lethbridge Hurricanes which will be his first appearance in front of the home crowd.

“I think we just gotta play our game, our structure,” said Onyebuchi.  “Stick to the structure and just play hard.  That’s what it comes down to I think.”
