Wildfire erupts near Monte Lake, B.C.

EARLIER: A estimated 100 hectare wildfire has broken out near Monte Lake this afternoon (July 26th).

Fire Information Officer Justine Hunse tells CFJC Today, "We have air support and ground crews en route at this time. The fire is highly visible from Highway 97 and nearby communities. There are structures threatened at this time."

As of 6:20pm, the Thompson Nicola Regional District has declared a state of emergency Electoral L, "Grasslands" in the Monte Lake area.

Several evacuation orders, and alerts are also in place.

Highway 97 is closed between Kamloops and Vernon while crews work to contain the blaze.

The cause of the Martin Mountain fire is currently unknown, and the investigation is ongoing.
