KAMLOOPS — If you were thinking about having a campfire this weekend, you are out of luck.

A complete campfire ban is now in place for the entire Kamloops Fire Centre.

The ban was enacted due to the hot and dry conditions, and officials say it is meant to prevent wildfires and protect public safety.

Fire danger ratings throughout the fire centre are generally high to extreme.

Kamloops joins Coastal, Southeast and Cariboo Fire Centres in declaring a ban.

While summertime campfire prohibitions are quite common in the Kamloops Fire Centre, the region went through all of 2016 without such a ban.
