Police searching for missing teenager who escaped arrest, jumped in river

KAMLOOPS — Police are now releasing details of a large-scale investigation on the North Shore.

Around 2am Kamloops RCMP were alerted to an alleged bicycle theft, shortly thereafter they located the bike.

Further efforts aided by a police dog located a teenage girl hiding under a dock in the Thompson River.

The suspect was then arrested, but during the arrest, and prior to being placed in handcuffs she managed to escaped custody and re-entered the river.

Police then launched an extensive search of the Thompson River, aided by Kamloops Fire Rescue, and Kamloops Search and Rescue.

At this point police have yet to locate the teenage girl.

The B.C. Independent Investigations Office has been notified of the event, and they are monitoring the situation.
