KAMLOOPS — A brand new Kamloops brewery is one step closer to opening its doors.

City Council voted in support of a new manufacturer’s Brewery Lounge Endorsement at 980 Camosun Cres.

A portion of the industrial building is being converted into a 60-person brewing lounge, which would operate from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Monday to Saturday and from 11 a.m. to midnight on Sundays.

Co-owners of Iron Road Brewing Corporation, Richard Phillips and Jared Tarswell, say council’s decision is an important step to getting their business up and running.

“It’s a good step in the right direction,” Phillips said. “Now we’ll keep moving forward. We’re busy with our build out right now. We’re getting our tanks mid May, and then by the time we do installation, commissioning, inspection, we’re hoping for an early July opening. But we’ll see kind of as things go along here.”
