Kamloops SAR mobilized to find 7 missing snowboarders near Sun Peaks

KAMLOOPS —  Search and Rescue members are heading up to Sun Peaks at this hour to locate as many as 7 snowboarders who went out of bounds. 

Alan Hobler with KSAR told CFJC Today, “We are currently deploying our drone team, and we have 18 members heading up there.”

The snowboarders are believed to be in the Henderson Creek area, where the avalanche hazard level is low.

“Conditions are currently fairly stable, we do have 2 CAA level two avalanche forecasters that are going to be out with us. They will help keep our team members safe,” explained Hobler.

Hobler adds they are believed to be in a terrain where it can draw them down into gullies, and there is a risk that they could end up either in a creek, or stranded in a gully.
