KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Search and Rescue is one of two teams involved in a search and rescue operation in the Clearwater backcountry this morning.

Kamloops Search and Rescue Search Manager Alan Hobler says Wells Grey Search and Rescue contacted KSR around 9 p.m. Saturday night seeking help.

A large crew was deployed from Kamloops just after 2 a.m, with the team arriving on site around 5 a.m.

"We sent up eight members," said Hobler. "Five of them are part of our snowmobile team, plus we have an avalanche technician that's up here as well. We're optimistic that we'll be of some assistance and we should be able to get the subjects out sometime today."

Hobler wouldn't comment on the number of missing persons, as he isn't in charge of the search.

More details are expected later today.
