Tire thieves prompt police warning

KAMLOOPS — RCMP are urging truck owners to keep an eye on their tires.

Corporal Jodi Shelkie says there have been a number of thefts of truck tires recently. She says there have been eight thefts of tires over the past month.

She says in half the cases, all the tires were taken from the trucks and the vehicles were left on blocks.

Shelkie says mainly Ford trucks have been targeted, although one GMC truck also had its tires stolen. She says no one particular neighbourhood seems to have been targeted.

Advice from the RCMP to protect your vehicle’s tires:

  • Always park in a garage if you have one.
  • Install a car alarm that includes sensors that attach to the wheels.
  • Park in an area with a lot of traffic and lighting to deter thieves.
  • Turn your wheels when parking.  This makes the wheels harder to remove because they get stuck in the wheel well.
  • Use wheel locks on each wheel.  The locks fit on each wheel and make the lug nuts extremely difficult to remove without a key.
