Winter driving tips to arrive safely

KAMLOOPS —Highway drivers are reminded to practice safe driving after a snowfall but what about on city streets?

A few spun-out cars were spotted around Kamloops Sunday morning following Saturday night’s snowfall.

Manjit Padda with One Way Driving School says along with reducing speed at least 10 kilometres, it’s vital drivers give plenty of time to stop.

“Do not tailgate,”said Padda. “Usually it takes about three seconds to get to the other car, take about six to seven seconds.”

Padda also says it’s important to maintain a smooth acceleration when approaching hills.

“Do not use too much brake so it’s hard to go back on the uphill,” said Padda. “Your car needs to be in the motion and then slowly give it more gas and then you will go.”

Padda adds putting sandbags in the trunk and equipping a vehicle with winter tires also helps decrease the chances of a crash.
