One dead following fatal crash near Spences Bridge

SPENCES BRIDGE, B.C. — RCMP say a violent crash between a semi and a pickup truck on the Trans Canada Highway yesterday took a man’s life.

The crash happened mid-afternoon yesterday southwest of Spences Bridge.

Police say a northbound pickup truck crossed the centre line and hit a semi hauling lumber head-on, instantly killing the pickup’s driver.

The driver of the semi was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, but his rig burst into a fire that caught a nearby hydro pole.

The highway was closed for several hours during cleanup.

Investigators will now try to determine why the pickup crossed into the semi’s path, and anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Ashcroft RCMP.
