KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops mother accused of killing her newborn child has had her charge reduced.

Courtney Fawn Saul was originally charged with second degree murder in the 2011 death of her newborn son George Carlos.

According to court documents, Saul is now charged with infanticide.

Her next court date is August 16, which is expected to be the start of a three-day preliminary inquiry.

While a conviction for second degree murder carries a mandatory life sentence, a conviction for infanticide carries a maximum five year prison sentence.
