KAMLOOPS — The Federal Environment Minister has expressed willingness to meet with the Mayor of Kamloops regarding the proposed Ajax copper gold mine.

In a letter from Ottawa in Tuesdays council agenda, Catherine McKenna says she has the ability to refer the proposal to a review panel.

However McKenna made no promise, only stating she will be monitoring the outcomes of the public consultation period currently underway.

Mayor Peter Milobar says, “it's not surprising. I said all along that it would be a long shot on a federal panel review but certainly it's welcome news that she wants to meet and get a better hand on the local concern.”

Milobar says McKenna will be one of the two decision makers on mine proposal and says it's never too late to share local concerns.

A meeting date has yet to be set.
