LYTTON, B.C. — The B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure says one of the final reconstruction projects stemming from the catastrophic November 2021 floods will be opened in time for the Canada Day long weekend.

In a release, the ministry says the new Highway 1 bridge at Falls Creek, near Jackass Mountain 20 kilometres south of Lytton, will replace a culvert that flood waters destroyed.

The bridge has been named CəX̣ ʷ Cixʷ (pronounced Check-Chow), celebrating neighbouring Indigenous communities.

The ministry says the new bridge features three lanes, wildlife safety features and is resilient to future climate events.
