KAMLOOPS — A Community Services Officer (CSO), formerly known as a bylaw officer, from the City of Kamloops will support the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) North Kamloops Library staff to help create a safe space for visitors.

In a news release issued Monday (Oct. 3) morning, the City says its one-year agreement with the TNRD will see both parties fund the officer position and replace the current private security services at the North Shore Library. The officer is funded by the TNRD in concert with a grant the City received from the Union of BC Municipalities.

“This agreement highlights our shared commitment to a safe and inclusive community for all residents living or accessing services in Kamloops,” said David Trawin, Kamloops’ chief administrative officer, says. “We recognize the need to work together to develop new solutions to address common concerns.”

Along with providing security services, the City says the CSO can provide outreach services to assist staff and visitors, and connect visitors seeking refuge or shelter with better-suited providers.
