KAMLOOPS — An architect with a history of building social housing in the Interior wants to build his next project on Tranquille Road between Wood Street and Aspen Street — a six-storey mixed use building with 44 units for low-income seniors and small families.

Kamloops City Council will consider issuing a development permit to Richard Hunter Architect for the project in a meeting Tuesday (May 3).

The units would be owned by Interior Community Services and subsidized by BC Housing. The application says the building would contain office space on the first floor as well as private balconies and a common laundry room. Plans for the building also include a playground and a gardening area for residents.

The site of the proposed project currently consists of four separate lots facing Tranquille Road owned by Interior Community Services, and one lot owned by a business on Hilltop Avenue. The area contains the current Interior Community Services office building. The city would consolidate the lots and a small portion of Hilltop Avenue to create the lot for the development.
