KAMLOOPS — Métis Nation BC (MNBC) has announced plans to build subsidized housing on a downtown Kamloops property.

In a news release, MNBC says it has purchased a property at 800 Victoria Street for $3.8 million.

The property will become home to below-market rate rental housing for Métis families, a Métis childcare centre, and office space for a child protection and support services office. It will also become the new home for Lii Michif Otipemisiwak (LMO) Family and Community Services, and the Two Rivers Métis Society.

MNBC says this is the first part of its goal to create Métis centres across the province.
