Kamloops man beats laser tag world record

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE-   A Kamloops man has broken the world record for the longest game of laser tag.

Fun & Games co-owner Dave Corbett had his work cut out for him, but got the job done. He broke the old record of 24 hours and 9 minutes by about 30 minutes. He didn’t make his goal of 30 hours because of problems with his knee, but he says just breaking the record,especially without a full team behind him was a satisfying achievment. It could take up to six weeks to get the official word from Guinness.

Corbett says he wanted to show people they can do anything they put their mind to.

“At this point the longest on record is 24 hours and 9 minutes,” Corbett said. “It was done by a team of guys over in Europe. I will be the first person to ever attempt to do something like this on my own without a team behind me.”

Corbett began his world record attempt at 10 a.m. today, May 21, and plans to continue play for 30 hours.

By 10:09 Sunday morning he will know he’s broken the record, but it could take some time before it’s official. 

“Guinness can take up to six weeks to officially say, ‘yes.’” 

Corbett is prepared to prove his record. There will be two people filming him throughout the 30 hour game of laser tag. 

The idea to break the world record started as a challenge from a friend, but Corbett also wants to send a message to young people. 

“My wife and I have been trying to sort of drive out into the community the idea that you can do whatever you want as long as you put your mind to it, and help each other out,” he said. 

“So the big idea behind this was to be able to invite kids from all over the city and give them a chance to sort of work with somebody who’s breaking a world record.

“It’s not something everybody gets to see every day.”
