Kamloops RCMP respond to local media feature on gang violence

Mar 8, 2019 | 2:48 PM

EDITOR’S NOTE: On Friday (March 8), Kamloops This Week published a feature series focused on recent gang activity in Kamloops. Friday afternoon, Kamloops RCMP released a response to CFJC Today and other local media.

Kamloops This Week has released a series of articles in which it is claimed that “justice and law-enforcement officials — police officers and others” have provided inside information concerning the ongoing organized crime conflicts and high profile investigations. Kamloops RCMP are committed to informing the public on all matters concerning public safety. To be reliable, the information should come from a credible source. When it comes to sensitive cases, not all law-enforcement officials have access to the information. As seen in this case, this article contains information known to be inaccurate mixed with factual content.

When the RCMP release information to the public, we ensure it is accurate and reliable to the fullest extend possible. We also examine any possible risks that the information could create for any involved persons. This process ensures the public is informed and no unnecessary risks are created for either individuals or investigations.

Any release of information attributed to anonymous justice and law-enforcement sources should be heavily scrutinized by the reader.
