Woody Allen Sues Amazon Studios

Woody Allen has filed a $68 million lawsuit against Amazon Studios, claiming the mega-streamer backed out of a four-picture deal based on a “baseless allegation” that it was privy to prior to signing a contract with him. He claims Amazon refused to release A Rainy Day in New York, despite it having been complete for six months.

“Amazon has tried to excuse its action by referencing a 25-year-old, baseless allegation against Mr. Allen, but that allegation was already well known to Amazon (and the public) before Amazon entered into four separate deals with Mr. Allen – and, in any event it does not provide a basis for Amazon to terminate the contract,” the suit alleges. “There simply was no legitimate ground for Amazon to renege on its promises.”

The allegation, which Allen has long denied, was put forward by his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow. She claimed that he sexually abused her when she was a child; the charges, which she’d leveled years ago, were resurfaced during the #MeToo movement.
