Imagine Dragons has topped a slew of Billboard‘s year-end charts, including Top Rock Artist, top song on the Alternative Digital Song Sales, Hot Rock Songs, Rock Digital Song Sales and Rock Streaming Songs charts, top artist on the Alternative Albums Artists, Hot Rock Songs Artists, Alternative Songs Artists, Top Rock Albums Artists, Rock Airplay Artists, Rock Digital Song Sales Artists and Rock Streaming Songs Artists charts, plus top album on the Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums charts.

Other rock acts such as Lovelytheband, Portugal. The Man, Panic! At The Disco and more also had strong chart activity in 2018, but none of them came close to competing with the way that Imagine Dragons dominated Billboard‘s rock charts.

Strangely, most of Imagine Dragons’ chart success in 2018 came with music that was originally released in 2017, on the band’s Evolve album. That includes the LP itself, as well as singles like “Thunder,” “Whatever It Takes” and the monster hit “Believer.”

Imagine Dragons toughed it out in Vegas clubs for four years before its debut album came out in 2012, and frontman Dan Reynolds told us it was time well spent: “The last thing that we wanted to do was to put out our first album when we didn’t understand exactly who we were as a band. We needed that time and that development to really find who Imagine Dragons was and to have a unique sound that was ours, and a message that, you know, we felt was worth saying before we tried to show it to the public and have them understand it.”
