ANIMAL PLANET SETS SERIES CELEBRITY ANIMAL ENCOUNTERS: Some of Hollywood’s most beloved and animal-loving stars, including Kristen Bell, Al Roker, Danny Trejo, Judy Greer and Whitney Cummings will appear in Celebrity Animal Encounters on Animal Planet. The series will document stars’ unexpected run-ins with animals, ranging from dangerous to hilarious. As each star narrates, the audience will view an animated reimagining of the encounter. The series is set to premiere on Animal Planet on July 27 at 10 p.m.

MARK RYLANCE SET FOR WAITING FOR THE BARBARIANS: Academy Award winner Mark Rylance has signed on for a starring role in the adaptation of Nobel laureate J.M. Coetzee‘s beloved 1980 novel Waiting for the Barbarians. The film will be directed by Ciro Guerra; filming will begin in Europe and North America this fall. The allegorical tale follows the story of a loyal servant (Rylance) working in a small frontier town and trying to ignore the coming war with “barbarians.”

CHRISTINA APPLEGATE TO STAR IN DEAD TO ME: Christina Applegate is set to star in a Will Ferrell-produced Netflix comedy, Dead to Me. Written by by Liz Feldman (The Great Indoors, 2 Broke Girls, One Big Happy), the show centers on “a powerful friendship that blossoms between a tightly wound widow and a free spirit with a shocking secret.” Applegate plays the widow, who has “an anger problem that she doesn’t necessarily want to deal with.”

HANDMAID’S TALE PRODUCER TALKS SEASON 3: Warren Littlefield, the exec producer of Hulu‘s Handmaid’s Tale, tells The Hollywood Reporter that Season 3 will be a game-changer. Says Littlefield: “I think we’ll get to go to another place for year three, which is the resistance, the fight. June has had to battle for survival, and I think it leaves us in a place where she’s able to look beyond herself, beyond the battle for her unborn child in year two, and for Hannah. It feels like it takes us to a bigger place.” In Season 2, Elisabeth Moss‘ June entrusts her baby with fellow handmaid Emily (Alexis Bledel) and stays behind to search for her oldest daughter, Hannah (Jordana Blake).

NETFLIX SETS DEAL WITH ALEX PINA: The creator, producer and writer of Netflix‘s most-watched non-English speaking show La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) has nabbed a global exclusive deal with the streamer. Alex Pina is set to produce new series and projects. “Working alongside Netflix is a dream come true. We are living in a moment where series are becoming one of the most relevant cultural movements ever,” said the Spanish producer. “The possibility of reaching the last corner on the planet and building a world where content of all languages can travel globally, is to be part of the dream of thousands of creatives from around the world; productions coming from small places in the world that today can reach everyone. We had to be there, beside Netflix, as part of this revolutionary challenge.”
