Benedict Cumberbatch’s Run In

Jun 4, 2018 | 6:30 AM

Benedict Cumberbatch had a real-life run-in with fiends near the home of his Sherlock Holmes character. The Avengers: Infinity War star reportedly rescued a London delivery bicyclist from being beaten by a gang of four people Friday.

He was allegedly in a cab with his wife Sophie Hunter when he saw the cyclist being slammed over the head with a bottle in an attempted robbery.

  • Cumberbatch foiled the robbery on Marylbone High Street, just around the corner from Holmes’ home on Baker Street. No arrests have been made.
  • The driver of the cab, Manuel Dias, told Britain’s The Sun newspaper that “Benedict was courageous, brave and selfless. If he hadn’t stepped in, the cyclist could have been seriously injured. Here was Sherlock Holmes fighting off four attackers.”
  • Dias continued, explaining that Cumberbatch “stood there instructing them on the street, shouting ‘Leave him alone.’ I had hold of one lad and Benedict another.”
