Roseanne Rollercoaster Continues

Roseanne was canceled Tuesday by ABC after Roseanne Barr issued a bizarre and false string of tweets. In one particularly racist tweet about former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, she likened her to an ape. (Barr wrote if the “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.”)
Although her show has been canceled, viewers can’t look away as the star continues her tweetstorm.
- Since that game-changing tweet about Jarrett, Barr has wavered between apologizing and gearing up for a fight. She has also blamed Ambien for the tweet, a claim the drug-maker dismissed, tweeting that “racism was not a known side effect” of the medication.
- Most recently, she appears to be signaling to her 840K+ followers that she is gearing up for battle.
- Barr tweeted: “you guys make me feel like fighting back. I will examine all of my options carefully and get back to U.”
- She also encouraged them to help her gather more followers. Barr wrote: “Can you all help me get more followers here? The more I have the more my words will have weight. I am a fighter 4 FAiRNESS in all aspects of US life. I am tired of being smeared-over a stupid mistake erasing 30 yrs of activism.”
- But then, Thursday afternoon, she seemed to change her tune again, telling followers: “please don’t compare me2 other people who have said horrible things. I only care about apologizing 4 the hurt I have unwittingly & stupidly caused. I humbly confess contrition & remorse. I failed2 correctly express myself, & caused pain2 ppl.”
- And while she castigated several of her cast-mates for “throwing her under a bus,” she praised costars John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf, tweeting: “I just wish ABC had not thrown two of the greatest actors in the world out with me-Laurie and John. I’m so sick over this-they will never have better character actors on their network.”
